Two arches sweep up from the shoulders to carry the head clear of the finger, leaving open space beneath the stone. Light reaches the pavilion from the sides as well as from above.
Built for weight. A deep cushion of three carats and upward needs the height, and the arches give it without adding mass across the finger.
